Boot them out from the city

31 July 2009 Anil m Leave a comment

busThis type of  bus also allowed to ply in the city. We should be ashamed of such wooden buses in this 21st. century. How this bus passed the fitness test by the Authority?

The citizen of Kolkata welcome the High court order on the issue of scraping 15 years old Buses, Taxis and Autos plying in the city because this order is in the interest of the citizens of  the city in particular and our mother planet in general because the CO2 emission from these vehicles are related to pollution & Global warming. The order of High court is a gift to the people of Kolkata if it is implemented by the enforcing departments of the Government.

What will happen if the high court order is followed in letter and spirit and all polluting vehicles are booted out? It is reported that people will live four years longer. Babies will be born healthier. And Kolkata will no longer be the asthma and lung cancer capital.

Automobile engineers and experts are confident that air toxicity — which is at alarming levels in Kolkata — will dip sharply once the old smoke belchers are gone. “There can be only one outcome — the city’s air will become cleaner. There will be a perceivable drop in carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, polyaromatic hydrocarbons and other toxic elements,” state pollution control board chief scientist Dipak Chakraborty said on Thursday, just two days before the blanket ban on pre-’93 commercial vehicles.

If the government cracks down on 15-year-old vehicles, there will be a remarkable change from day 1 itself, said automobile engineer Prabir Kumar Bose, director of the National Institutes of Technology in Silchar and Agartala. “New vehicles have more fuel-efficient engines. Not only do they use less fuel for combustion, the process is more complete. Hence, there are less pollutants in the emission,” he explained.

In the interest of the people of Kolkata and future generation the  old commercial vehicles must be booted out. They are the silent killers. They should be treated like a killer and they do not deserve any mercy. This time Government should not surrender to any pressure. Government should enforce the order for the pollution free Kolkata, cleaner  Kolkata, healthier Kolkata and beautiful Kolkata. Beautiful Kolkata because these vehicles are the shame for the city. These type of buses are not seen anywhere in India even in the districts. Kolkata is changing in every aspect but why not these buses are booted out yet? In a technologically advanced age these vehicles are shameful to see on the roads of a Metro city. Why so much delay and ultimately High court has to pass an order to boot out these vehicles? This is high time to enforce the order of High court in toto. We the citizen of the city want the Government law enforcement agencies to act this time.

kargil 1

“THEY GAVE THEIR TODAY FOR OUR TOMORROW”

They’d promised their families they’d come back soon. They more than kept their word. Went as mere men. Came back as heroes. In coffins.

The hills of Kargil came alive on Sunday night in a glow of lights as India marked the 10th anniversary of its military victory against Pakistan by paying homage to the over 500 soldiers killed while recapturing the treacherous peaks.

In an unprecedented military ceremony of its kind, army officers, soldiers, family members of those killed in the Kargil war, as well as people of this region along the border of Jammu and Kashmir paid tributes to the martyrs of Kargil.

The finale of the two-day ceremony was a musical show by military bands drawn from all over the country followed by a spectacular lighting of Tiger Hill and Tololing, two of the strategic peaks Pakistani Islamist insurgents and camouflaged troops quietly took over before being beaten back in two months of bloody and at times hand to hand fighting.

When in 1962 Lata Mangeshkar sang this patriotic song, it moved Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru, the Indian Prime Minister, to tears.
This is  my all time favourite patriotic song. Whenevr I listen to it, I cry inside me.
**** Lyrics of the song *****
Aye Mere Vatan Ke Logon
tum Khoob Laga Lo Naara
ye Shubh Din Hai Ham Sab Ka
lahara Lo Tiranga Pyaara
par Mat Bhoolo Seema Par
veeron Ne Hai Praan Ganvaaye
kuch Yaad Unhein Bhi Kar Lo -2
jo Laut Ke Ghar Na Aaye -2

aye Mere Vatan Ke Logon
zara Aankh Mein Bhar Lo Paani
jo Shaheed Hue Hain Unki
zara Yaad Karo Qurbaani

jab Ghayal Hua Himaalay
khatre Mein Padi Aazadi
jab Tak Thi Saans Lade Vo
phir Apni Laash Bichha Di
sangeen Pe Dhar Kar Maatha
so Gaye Amar Balidaani
jo Shaheed…

jab Desh Mein Thi Diwali
vo Khel Rahe The Holi
jab Ham Baithe The Gharon Mein
vo Jhel Rahe The Goli
the Dhanya Javaan Vo Aapane
thi Dhanya Vo Unaki Javaani
jo Shaheed …

koi Sikh Koi Jaat Maraatha
koi Gurakha Koi Madaraasi
sarahad Pe Maranevaala
har Veer Tha Bhaaratavaasi
jo Khoon Gira Parvat Par
vo Khoon Tha Hindustaani
jo Shaheed…

thi Khoon Se Lath-Path Kaaya
phir Bhi Bandook Uthaake
das-Das Ko Ek Ne Maara
phir Gir Gaye Hosh Ganva Ke
jab Ant-Samay Aaya To
kah Gaye Ke Ab Marate Hain
khush Rahana Desh Ke Pyaaron
ab Ham To Safar Karate Hain
kya Log The Vo Deewane
kya Log The Vo Abhimaani
jo Shaheed…

tum Bhool Na Jaao Unko
is Liye Kahi Ye Kahaani
jo Shaheed…
jay Hind Jay Hind Ki Sena -2
jay Hind, Jay Hind, Jay Hind

Mamata sees road to writers

Mamata's Rally

The human sea at the Trinamool Congress gathering in Esplanade on Tuesday 21 Jul 2009, saw a matured politician – Mamata Banerjee. Success has made her more sensible. She asked her supporters to behave politely and not to resort to blockades without the permission of the leadership. People are in distress. Food prices are soaring. Lets not to add to their inconvenience.

The victory rally, timed to coincide with the Martyr’s Day in commemoration of 11 Youth Congress workers killed in police firing in 1993, saw a record turnout that clogged the city streets, bringing traffic in arterial roads to a standstill for nearly five hours.

After her stunning performance in the recent Lok Sabha polls, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee making it clear that she was now thinking beyond Trinamool’s role as an Opposition party, she gave a hint of her priorities as the leader of the party in power in the state in 2011.

A beaming Mamata unfolded her roadmap for the post-2011 Bengal, saying the industry and the agriculture will grow side by side. “Both will flourish under the Trinamool rule. They will be like two sisters — hashi (smile) aar khushi (happiness).”
It seems she is in the process of changing, but she is still to be more matured and realistic in talking as well as in her works.
