Big Bazar came to Salt Lake

Welcoming the customers with Aabir (Pic.  by Sony Ericsson Mobile W580i and I think, the result is amazing)

A new shopping mall (Big Bazar) opened in Salt Lake today at IB Block, near Columbia Asia Hospital on the Broadway. Salt Lake already got a prestigious mall of International standard named “City Centre”. City Centre is the first mall came up in Salt Lake with a different concept of a huge open space for car parking as well as space for “Adda” of  all ages.   Also there are two malls around Salt Lake, one of them is Big Bazar at Beleghata and other one “Mani Square”  Mall on the EM Bypass.  There is no INOX theaters or  food court  in this mall.  This is exclusive a Big Bazar outlet.

There is no escalator in this mall. However slops have been planned for easy movement with your item full trolley from one floor to another. Of course provision of lifts are there  and elderly persons can make use of them.

The way malls are coming up at every corner of the city, the shopping culture of the urban people is changing slowly and getting adapted with the malls. This mall is opened today on 28th March 2010 and at about 08PM there was a mad rush inside and because of long ques in the cash counters, finally we left the items what we picked up on this inaugural day, and came out of the mall.

Brand new Nano in flames

Nano, the India’s most ugliest and the world’s so called cheapest  car again in news. A brand new Nano caught fire within minutes of drive. The car was being driven by an employee of the dealer after delivery. Suddenly, there was smoke  coming from the car’s rear, where the Nano’s engine is housed. The driver slammed the brakes and the owner Mr. Sawant and those accompanying jumped out of the car, a wise move because within minutes the vehicle was engulfed in flames. As if it got immolated itself for unbearable insult due to its ugly look.

Now we thank Mamata Banerjee who made Tata to close the Nano factory near Kolkata and go elsewhere. We felt it that time. But after seeing Nano, the look and its quality, we now realise that we feel lucky for not being tagged with such a product. It is such a terrible ugly car. Now, with all these ‘reputation’ Tata wants to increase the price of Nano.

Tata wanted to give a car to scooterist  families so that in rainy season they don’t get drenched and reach safely to their destination. it was a noble idea no doubt but such quality of car  may not take them home safely instead they may be burnt on their way. Mr. Sawant and his wife were lucky enough to  save themselves by jumping out of the car in time.

Tata made the public crazy (though it is down now and it will be further down) by its cost of one lakh . But  public  should realise the consequences of cheaper items. Mr. Sawant purchased a LX model Nano which costed him 2+lakhs and it turned into ashes in minutes of driving. First of all people who are spending 2L why going for Nano ?  With this amount good second hand vehicles are available in the market which will be far far better than the Nano. There is no sense of going for a Nano. People should know that it is the most ugliest car ever manufactured in India.

Watch this video while Having a break

Did you know that India is now the world’s largest importer of palm oil, used by major brands in edible and cosmetic products? And that palm oil is causing horrific deforestation in Indonesia?

So when a company like Nestlé asks you to take a break by having a Kit Kat bar, that Kit Kat bar may be involved in the destruction of rainforests.

Kit Kat often contains palm oil from companies who are cutting down Indonesian rainforests, speeding up climate change, threatening the livelihoods of local people and pushing orangutans towards extinction.

Watch this hard-hitting new video while you take that break, then pass it on to others:

Useless Swiss Post

I booked a packet of some gift items by speed post from Kolkata to a  addressee at Basel, Switzerland. It was on the first day of this year. On tracking it was showing that the packet reached Zurich on 08th Jan 2010 and since then it was lying there and was not delivered to the addressee at Basel.

Lodged a complained to Indian Postal department and in turn they contacted their counter part SwissPost at Switzerland.  Then they inquired at the addressee whether he has received the item or not. It was not delivered.

It is surprising that after 2 months, they now say it is lost. What a simple and easy answer by the Swiss postal department. We never knew that Swiss postal Department is so useless, inefficient and callous.

Temple Trauma

A journalist from Delhi came to Dakshineswar Temple with his family, to offer Puja (Worship) to Goddess Kali of Dakshineswar Temple, Kolkata. But to his surprise, some of his family members became target of eve teasing in the Temple campus by the local miscreants. It is reported by the media that he  was thrashed by the miscreants for tease protest in the presence of  the temple security guards.

According to locals, the temple arena has become a veritable den for miscreants and eve-teasers. It is a shame that such incidents are allowed to take place at a place visited by worshippers from across the world. The Dakshineswar temple authority and local police should crackdown on miscreants immediately who have converted the area into a den of their anti-social activities.

The magnificent seven! Natural wonders of the world

The planet has many wonderful assets and there has been no consensus on how long this list should be.  A list of seven wonders of the natural world compiled by CNN is brought to you here.

1. Aurora
Aurora

God’s spectacular display of light and color, Aurora – also called the northern or southern lights – usually occur in the nighttime in the polar regions. Lights that can be see in the northern hemisphere are called the Aurora Borealis while the southern lights are called the Aurora Australis.

Though the aurora can be seen throughout the year, the greatest chances to experience this celestial show is during the months of March, April, September and October.

2. The Grand Canyon

A massive steep sided gorge created by the Colorado river in Arizona, United States, the Grand Canyon was formed over a 5.4 million year period. The canyon is 446 kilometres long, with a width ranging from 7 to 29 kilometres with a depth of almost 2 kms.

Even with such fantastic figures, the Grand Canyon is not the steepest nor the longest canyon in the world, but is recognized as a natural wonder because of the overall scale and size combined with the beautifully colored landscape.

3. Great Barrier Reef

The largest coral reef system in the world, the Great Barrier reef is made up of 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for over 2,600 kilometres over an area of approximately 344,400 square kilometres. The reef is located off the coast of Queensland in northeast Australia in the Coral sea and supports one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world. The reef is visible from outer space.

4. Harbour of Rio de Janeiro

Located around Rio de Janeiro, the harbour of Rio de Janerio is surrounded by unique mountains and formations. the harbour was created by erosion from the Atlantic Ocean. The Harbour is surrounded by gorgeous mountains that include Sugar Loaf at 1,296 feet, Corcovado Peak at 2,310 feet, and the hills of Tijuca at 3,350 feet.

This harbour falls in the natural wonder category because this one site looks like many different thing depending on where you see it from. Some of the first explorers thought it looked like the mouth of some giant river. The giant mountains by it deceive your eyes to make it seem like a lake. Some of the mountains are low and run straight into the water.

5. Mount Everest

The name speaks for itself.  Highest point on the surface of the earth (29,029 feet), located in the Himalayas.

6. Paricutin

A cinder cone volcano in Mexico, Paricutin was named one of the seven natural wonders as an active volcano. The volcano has been dormant since the last eruption in 1952.

What is remarkable about this volcano is that it is the youngest volcano in America and its birth was witness by a human being. The volcano began as a fissure in a cornfield owned by a P’urhépecha farmer, Dionisio Pulido on February 20, 1943. Pulido, his wife, and their son all witnessed the initial eruption of ash and stones first-hand as they plowed the field. The volcano grew quickly, reaching five stories tall in just a week, and it could be seen from afar in a month.

7. Victoria Falls

Also called the “smoke that thunders”, Victoria Falls is a waterfall located in southern Africa on the borders of Zambia and Zimbabwe. The Zambezi River serves as the fall’s water source.

While it is neither the highest nor the widest waterfall in the world, it is claimed to be the largest based on a width of 1,708 metres and height of 108 meters, forming the largest sheet of falling water in the world. The falls are formed as the full width of the Zambezi river plummets in a single vertical drop into a transverse chasm 1708 meters (5604 ft) wide.

Basanta Utsab at Shantiniketan-2010

This may not be the first time in the recent past that peace at Rabindranath Tagore’s Santiniketan has been shattered but none could  imagine that violence would take a toll on Basanta Utsav at Gurudev’s Shantiniketan on Sunday. The tradition of celebrating Basanta Utsav at Santiniketan was started by Nobel laureate Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore himself and it is the occasion when  thousands including foreigners,  gather in the campus to witness and participate in the colourful Basanta Utsab on the day of Holi, But this time the tradition was broken when the management had to curtailed the functions by canceling the evening dance drama due to clash between two groups of students. The responsible students of this shameful act should be identified and  be expelled from the prestigious institution without any hesitation.

What happened on Sunday, is shame to Bengal, shame to Bengali, shame to  all of us who love Tagore.
